Scrumptious pear butter with warm notes of Madagascar vanilla, a layer of Sri Lankan nutmeg, and just a dash of cinnamon.
Early in the season, our Bosc pears come from an organic, biodynamic, family farm near the Navarro River in Mendocino, where three generations work the land together. Later in the season, our pears come from a second organic and biodynamic farm in Oregon committed to sustainable land use. Deliciously crisp with a golden brown color, these pears give our butter the perfect texture — thick + chunky. We use 8 lbs. of pears to 1 lb. of fair trade sugar, making Midnight in Pearis our lowest added sugar jam.
Our Fairtrade vanilla beans come directly from Madagascar and are organic certified. They are incredibly fresh and fragrant, adding a wonderful depth of flavor. Both our nutmeg and cinnamon come from Sri Lanka. They are Fairtrade and organic certified. The blend of all these spices become a delightful flavor party in the mouth, elevating seemingly ordinary pear butter to an extraordinary treat.
Cheesemonger Megan Beene at Rainbow Grocery Cooperative writes: “Midnight in Pearis, a lush Bosc pear butter with tempting notes of spice, enhances the caramel and brown butter flavors in the Brabander Dutch goat gouda,...[whose] brighter goat flavors linger and dance with nutmeg and cinnamon…” This same complex Midnight in Pearis is almost all that is needed to amp up Mashed Sweet Potatoes.
